Step by Step Sourdough Starter

Ingredients
- 50g Strong White Bread Flour (this is needed for everyday feeding)
- Filtered water
You can use other jars for your sourdough starter how I highly recommend this kit as it comes with 2 jars and a mini spatula which fits perfectly. You can get the kit here
Day 1 –
To make your starter mix together equal parts of strong white bread flour and filtered water. You can boil the kettle and let this cool for the water. You want the consistency to be like a thick pancake batter. Once combined cover the jar (if it is a lid don’t screw it on just place on top) and leave in a warm place like the kitchen bench.
Day 2-8
Discard half your starter and feed with equal parts strong white bread flour and filtered water. You may start to see some bubbles forming in your starter and there may also start to be a smell, as long as your starter has not gone mouldy keeping feeding, if it has got mould bin your starter and start again.
Day 9
My starter was now starting to become active, loads of bubbles are now appearing and it has a yogurt kind of smell. Whilst mixing the starter it had a light and fluffy feel to it too. You want to do the same feeding, discard half then feed with equal parts strong white bread flour and filtered water.
Day 10
My starter was now active as it was super bubbly however I didn’t bake with it this day purely due to not having time. I continued to follow the same discarding and feeding everyday until I was ready to bake with it.
If you want to know how I baked my sourdough the recipe is on my instagram @time4bait but I will be posting on here soon!
